Tecumseh

Total trip duration: 3:34:43
Distance: 5.2 miles
Hikers: Vance, Quinn and Ashton
4000 footer completion count: Tecumseh #14 (4,003 feet)

It was a perfect fall day for our hike of Mount Tecumseh; we were fortunate that Quinn's friend Ashton was able to join us for the adventure. Our route today was Mount Tecumseh trail [Tecumseh] > Mount Tecumseh trail > Sosman trail > Misc Waterville Valley ski trails.

The sun was bright as we started up the mountain.  Quinn and Ashton were full of energy as they took off up the trail.

Soon they found some great climbing rocks!

We crossed a small river and the climb began to steepen.

We took a brief detour to get some great views and enjoy a snack.

There were all kinds of neat little rock structures.

The Mount Tecumseh trail was very well cared for.  We were so impressed by the amazing rock stairs that assisted hikers on the steep climbs.  We marveled at all the work it must have taken to move and set all the rocks in the trail.

Cheers!  We reached the top!!!  We had lunch and took some pictures.

There were better views at the top than we expected!

On the way up, the kids noticed the Sosman trail.  I had originally planned to hike the Mount Tecumseh trail top to bottom.  However, they convinced me to take a different route down.  It turned out to be a great idea.  As we hiked along the Sosman, we came upon these furry looking trees.

The Sosman connects to the Waterville Valley ski area.

The kids decided they needed to sit on virtually every chairlift on the mountain!

Here's a view of Tecumseh from Waterville Valley.

The great thing about going down via the ski slopes is that we got a ton of great views that weren't visible from the top of Tecumseh.

Coming down the slopes was steep and fast.  We weaved all over the mountain from trail to trail.

Smokey was waiting for us at the base of the mountain.

Quinn and Ashton celebrated in the parking lot after completing the hike.

It was great having Ashton along for the hike!  It turns out that she's an excellent hiking buddy.  When we got to the bottom, the kids told me they wanted to head back up to do the hike again!  The trip couldn't have gone better.  Next up is the Northern Presidentials...

Quinn's Take

My dad and I went on a hike up Mt. Tecumseh.  My dad surprised me in the morning by picking up my friend Ashton so she could join us.  That was a great surprise!

This was a pretty easy hike compared to others that we have done.  We started off by crossing a small stream.  Ashton went into the woods off the trail and saw a HUGE, green frog.

As we hiked farther up the trail we saw a sign that said, "View."  Here we had a little snack break and enjoyed the view of Waterville Valley.  Once we got to the top of the mountain, Ashton and I had some sour patch kids and tea.

Then we started our way down to the ski trails.  We climbed on a chair lift and got our picture taken.  We went down a blue square trail and black diamond trail.  The diamond trail was pretty hard!   At the bottom we had our picture taken with Smokey the Bear.

Ashton and I had a great time hiking together!  I asked her if she would like to go on another hike and she said, "Definitely!"

Happy Trails!!
